IND vs AUS 2018: Is wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik slowly earning the name of a finisher alongside skipper Virat Kohli in T20I format?

Team India was down to a do-or-die situation in Sydney after the second game was washed out. But Indian skipper Virat Kohli once again showed his pedigree to revive India and help the team level the series 1-1 against Australia on Sunday (November 25). Coming back to his usual No.3 spot, Kohli scored a remarkable and unbeaten 61 as India chased down the target of 165 runs with two balls remaining. But the batsman that went unnoticed by many in India's thrilling victory was Dinesh Karthik, who had maintained composure even under pressure situation and stayed alongside Kohli till the end. In fact, statistics reveal that Karthik is slowly becoming a finisher for India in the shortest format of the game.
After the openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma provided India with a blistering start. They stitched a crucial partnership of 67 runs before the middle-order fumbled again. While KL Rahul departed for 14 runs, Rishabh Pant registered an embarrassing golden duck. Australia were high on confidence with the four quick wickets as they looked to wrap up a memorable series win in Sydney. But Karthik and Kohli stuck together to lace 60 runs with the skipper scoring his first T20I fifty in 2018. With quick singles and delightful sixes, India chased the target within 19.4 overs.

Soon after the glorious win, chase-master Kohli was praised for his incredible innings, but one cannot mask the efforts of Karthik in the chase. His 20 runs laced by a boundary and a six each played a pivotal role alongside Kohli's masterclass. In fact, as far as T20Is are concerned, Karthik plays a crucial role in India's win in chases.
In the shortest format of the game, Kohli has remained unbeaten in 12 chases and India have won all 12 of those matches. Also, Karthik maintained his unbeaten score in nine chases in T20Is and India have won all those matches. In two matches in which Karthik had lost his wicket, India had lost both of them.
"I think DK showed great composure at the death along with me stringing a partnership to get us home," said Kohli in the post-match presentation.
